Seattle Public School District - Approves Later Start Times

The Seattle School District, which covers all of the city of Seattle and not the Eastside area of Bellevue or surrounding cities, just approved a later start time for the majority of Seattle Public School high school students beginning for the 2016-17 school year.

Research continues to show that teens need more sleep, especially in the early morning hours and a late start time is highly beneficial to learning.  This has been a controversial proposal for the Seattle district due to the significant cost increase for bus transportation with these funds coming from an already underfunded district.
